UNIT 2. LANDFORMS AND RELIEF.
INTRODUCTION. (READ IT BEFORE YOU DO YOUR ASSIGNMENTS).
FORMATION OF THE EARTH AND OCEAN RELIEF.
We can distinguish two main processes in the formation of the earth and ocean relief. These processes are internal and external and both tend to compensate one another. Both of them transform the globe surface forming high and low lands and the shape of our environment.
Internal processes.

We can distinguish two main processes in the formation of the earth and ocean relief. These processes are internal and external and both tend to compensate one another. Both of them transform the globe surface forming high and low lands and the shape of our environment.
Internal processes.
- Plate tectonics- plate movements (see unit 1) / volcanos, earthquakes. Transform the earth crust--- the magma and the plate movements create new mountains, islands, ocean ridges.
- Erosion. Wind action… (break the highlands and move the sediments to the lowlands and to the sea).
- Water cycle (see unit 3)
- Human action on the landscape (farming, building ) //pollution //climate alteration-desertification.
GETTING TO KNOW LANDSCAPE FEATURES. DRAWING AND DESCRIBING.
1.- MAKE A LIST IN COLUMNS of the LANDFORMS and OCEANIC FORMS (Oceanic relief features) in English, Catalan and Spanish. To do that use the PDF landforms_and_relief_definitions (separate on the list the landforms from the ocean relief) 2.- When you've got the list. Write a definition for each relief feature (terrestrial and oceanic). To prepare the list of definitions you can use SOURCES 8, the PDF landforms_and_relief_definitions AND WORD-REFERENCE. 3.- FINALLY make two drawings and color them. One for the LANDFORMS and one for the OCEANIC AND COASTAL FORMS. They can be similar AS IS SHOWN IN THE EXAMPLE. (Your teacher will provide you with the Din A 3 to do the drawings. Enjoy the project !! Clic on the images below to enlarge them. |
